Quoter Peter Kwok section 4

1.Page 179

Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo.

The significance of this quote is that he heard something coming from where he had came from and possibly the people back at home and indicates that he really did have the capacity to see beyond. The giver was right and Jonas changed

2. Page 164

"Enjoy it, little guy," he said. "This is your last night as visitor."

This quote shows that Jonas' dad wanted to release Gabe. Jonas knows the truth behind releasing people and that is really killing the people.

3. Page 176

The memories had fallen behind him now, escaping from his protection to return to the people of his community.

Jonas' plan worked but it cost him a lot of sacrifice but it show is he did what was best for the community

4. Page 173

The word had been "starving." You have never been starving, he had been told. You will never be starving.

Jonas now knows what starving means and even though his mom told him presision of language he really means it now.

5. page 174

He no longer cared about himself.

This quote shows that Jonas has changed, grown, and now possesses feelings. He has learned things no one else has and it is all because  of the giver.

Character Commandant - Angie M

1. Jonas was horrified when he found out what the newchild's release really means, and refuses to go home to his family. Pg 152. The Giver explains to Jonas that the people in the community cannot feel the same things he does, and helps him in his plan to escape from the community. Pg 158.

2. Jonas and Gabriel finally escaped the community, and had to hide from the planes that were looking for them. Since the planes use heat seeking to look for them, Jonas gave a memory of the coldest thing he could think of to Gabriel. This made both of their temperatures cold enough to not be sensed by the planes. Pg. 169.

3. Along the way to Elsewhere, Jonas and Gabriel experienced new things. They saw flying birds for the first time, which they had thought were planes at first. They also got to see other animals, such as deer and foxes. They also saw many new types of plants that they had not seen before. Pg. 172.

4. Jonas lost most of the memories given to him by the Giver, but he was able to remember the warm feeling of sunshine. Using this, he transmits the memory to Gabriel, and they were both able to make it up the snow covered hill, even though they were very cold and hungry. pg 176-177.

5. Jonas and Gabriel ride down the hill on a sled they found, and see lots of houses. Jonas was sure there were families with memories and love inside those houses, and that they were waiting for him and the newchild. Finally, hears music for the first time. Pg 179-180.

Connector cole cabral

In chapters 19-23 in the book The Giver reminds me of a time when I watched the  movie The Hunger Games. In the movie there are 12 districts and they are all controlled by one small group of people. Everything in the movie is controlled juts like in the Giver.

In the book the giver and the movie The hunger games there are people trying to rebel against the people controlling the community. What both rebellion groups all they want is change in the way they govern the community.

Mood Maven- Vernadette U.

pg.152
"He killed it! My father killed it! Jonas said to himself, stunned at what he was realizing. He continued to stare at the screen numbly."

In this paragraph, the tone and the mood can be described as shocking  because no ever expected that to happen during releases and I also think this is the most important part of the story because if the Giver hadn't pulled out the video of the part where Jonas father release the twins, escaping from the community wouldn't have even crossed his mind.

pg.152
"What about you? Do you lie to me, too?" Jonas almost spat the
question at The Giver.
"I am empowered to lie. But I have never lied to you."

The tone and the mood can be described as angry and also a little bit of a betrayal because Jonas thinks that the Giver have lied to him before because of they have the power to do so.

pg.164
“He felt, surprisingly, no fear, nor any regret at leaving the community behind. But he felt a very deep sadness that he had left his closest friend behind. He knew that in the danger of his escape he must be absolutely silent; but with his heart and mind, he called back and hoped that with his capacity for hearing-beyond, The Giver would know that Jonas had said goodbye.”

The tone and mood is a bit sad because Jonas plans to leave everything behind him and also a sense of nervousness because if Jonas gets caught while his trying to flee its all over for him.

pg.169
"But when the planes came, he wished that he could have received the courage. He knew they were search planes. They flew so low that they woke him with the noise of their engines, and sometimes, looking out and up fearfully from the hiding places, he could almost see the faces of the searchers."
The tone and the mood can be describes as suspenseful and it also has an anxious feel to it because of the fact that they might get caught by the guards and be forced to return to the community and face some consequences.

pg. 179

“Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo.”
The tone and mood of this paragraph can be describe as suspenseful and it also leaves a cliffhanger with the last sentence because when Jonas realized that its just an echo people would want to know what will happen next.
